Biography
Hyuk was born in South Korea and moved to Bahrain with his family at an early age. He won first prize in the Young Musician of the Gulf, alongside with the Best Pianist Award and Most Promising Bahrain-Based Musician Award in 2010. In the same year, he received third prize in the First International Chopin Competition in Kuwait. Further, he has previously been invited to participate in the Second Aegaeon Art International Festival in Greece. In 2014, he has performed in a Winners Concert in the Crescendo Summer Institute in Hungary. Hyuk also achieved the B. Mus degree from the Royal Academy of Music in 2015.
In 2016, Hyuk Namkoong’s performance of Nikolai Kapustin’s Sonata-Fantasia at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has appeared on the news (Herald Scotland). He was also described as a “power-driven” classical pianist. Hyuk received his Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2017, where he was under the tutelage of Petras Geniušas. After finishing his studies at the RCS, Hyuk returned to South Korea to complete his military service which is compulsory for every South Korean man. During the two years of service, Hyuk had the opportunity to perform in front of the general of Republic of Korea Army.
